I think it’s probably safe to say that very few of us want to give up on the idea of finding love despite being in the middle of a global pandemic. We want to believe that even during the most unprecedented of times we can still be happy and find someone who makes us feel special.
Sadly, there’s no rule book on how to date while observing social distancing. And as in many areas of our lives right now, we’re having to learn as we go. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t still ramp up that loving feeling in lockdown. Take it from someone who knows!
So, for today’s post, I thought I’d share a few of my top tips on how to date while still observing social distancing. I hope you enjoy having a read:
01. GIVE ONLINE DATING A TRY
If you’ve never tried online dating on a site like www.datebristolsingles.co.uk before, it can seem a little scary. But you needn’t worry. There are loads of people giving it a try for the first time right now. After all, we’re living in the most unusual times and there’s nothing safer than being in two different places at once and swapping messages on a dating site from a physical health perspective. And it has loads of other advantages too — including the fact that you can build up trust steadily without leaping into a relationship with someone that could be dangerous. Find the right dating site for your situation and just be honest and upfront about what you’re looking for and what you have to offer too.
Make sure you check out my post on successfully dating online during lockdown too — it’s packed with tips from creating a stellar dating profile that will make you stand out from the crowd, starting a conversation that gets replies and much more!
02. DON’T BE AFRAID TO GO ON THAT FIRST DATE
If you’re planning on meeting up with someone for the very first time then you’re bound to be nervous. But try not to worry about it too much. After all, you’ll always have something to talk about nowadays as the Coronavirus is affecting everyone. It might sound silly, but it’s something that you’ll easily be able to strike up a conversation about. You could talk about how lockdown has gone for you and encourage your date to do the same. Once you’re chatting, the conversation will start flowing naturally and you can talk about everything from your hobbies and interests to your favourite movies and life stories. And try to make sure you have a giggle with them too — this will show you have a good sense of humour and will make a fun girlfriend or boyfriend in the long run.
03. WHAT YOU CAN DO ON A LOCKDOWN DATE
There’s absolutely no doubt we’re living in testing times right now. And that applies on the dating front too. A lot of the options you would usually do on a date are not possible right now as many places are still closed — or at least only allowing in a handful of people at a time. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun. You could book a table at a nearby restaurant or go for walk around a lake or park. This can be so romantic if it’s done with the right person. And if you’re worried about meeting in person while restrictions are still in place, why not consider having a virtual date night instead? I’ve shared some of my favourite virtual date ideas here. I promise, you’ll love them!
04. MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE SPARK ALIVE
With many restrictions still in place, you might not be able to see each other as regularly as you would normally. One benefit of this strange time in our lives is that we’re becoming more and more comfortable with video chats. Some dating apps and sites even allow you to have a video date, or you could hop onto a Zoom or Skype call instead. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with getting dressed up for a video date either. In fact, it will probably give you a confidence boost and make you feel more excited about it!
I hope I’ve shown you that it’s still possible to date in socially-distanced times with a little goodwill, creativity and the use of the technology we have available to us. You might even find that it’s easier to date nowadays than it was before. After all, you’re much more likely to spend time building a connection with someone you like without having the immediate pressure to start a sexual relationship straightaway. So why not sign up to a Bristol dating site today? I promise you won’t regret it!
