Isn’t it great that things are starting to go back to some sort of normal after spending what seemed like an eternity in lockdown thanks to Coronavirus? I’ve been on some really great dates recently, and I’ve got to admit that they weren’t as difficult as I’d imagined them to be due to all the restrictions that are still in place. Phew!
If you live in Los Angeles (or are just visiting) you’ll always be able to find something different to see or do on a date. And for today’s blog post I thought I’d share my top 20 date night ideas for those of you who live in or around this incredible Californian city. I hope you enjoy it, and it gives you some inspiration for something to do on your next date.
So, without any further ado, let’s dive right in …
01. TAKE A TRIP TO THE EL MATADOR STATE BEACH
Small, beautiful, and surrounded by rocky outcrops, the El Matador State beach is not only one of the best ones to visit, but also one of the most romantic places in Los Angeles for a date. Arrive early in the morning to enjoy the beauty of the sunrise or later on in the evening for an incredible sunset at one of the best beaches in Los Angeles. Once you find a private spot, lie down, whisper sweet nothings to each other, and watch the high tides coming on in. You’ll love it!
02. VISIT DISNEYLAND CALIFORNIA
If you think that Disneyland is just for kids, then think again! The happiest place in Los Angeles is actually the perfect spot for a date. Let the romantic adventurer in you go for some thrilling rides, while you make the most of those precious moments with the love of your life. You might even meet one or two of your all-time favourite Disney characters while you’re there!
03. ENJOY A RELAXING AFTERNOON AT BEVERLEY HOT SPRINGS
There’s no better way to spend some quality time together than by pampering yourselves at a natural hot spring spa. Located just outside of Beverly Hills, the spa offers an array of amazing treatments, massages, and water-based remedies. With a serene ambience surrounded by natural elements like rock, waterfalls, and flowers, this is one of the best romantic spots in Los Angeles. You’re sure to love it!
04. CATCH A MOVIE UNDER THE STARS AT THE ROOFTOP CINEMA CLUB
Take your date to new heights with an alfresco screening from Rooftop Cinema Club’s latest movies, which includes a mix of classics and recent award winners. They provide cosy deck chairs, blankets, and wireless headphones to cancel out the background noise, plus it’s way less crowded than most other outdoor screenings.
At the Hollywood location, the terrace rooftop of NeueHouse, you can also score booze and bar snacks on-site, and at the Downtown location on the rooftop of LEVEL, you’ll find a rotating lineup of food trucks, plus classic movie concessions at both locations. And best of all, you can opt for the standard seating with the option to upgrade to bottomless popcorn, or splurge a few bucks more and cosy up in a double deckchair love seat – this is a date, after all.
05. TAKE A SUNSET CHAMPAGNE FLIGHT OVER THE CITY
A private sunset air tour of Los Angeles in a helicopter or a small plane is a great prelude to a romantic dinner for two. And some tour companies will even fly you to dinner at a top-notch restaurant. This is a great way to sweep your sweetheart off his or her feet.
There are a variety of air tours of Los Angeles to choose from, including one from Orbic Air that takes guests on a 45-minute tour over Beverly Hills, Sunset Strip, and the downtown skyline all while sipping on complimentary champagne, snacking on a delicious dessert, and cuddling close with your better half. You even get a souvenir photo to commemorate the experience. How cute is that!?
06. TAKE A GONDOLA RIDE AT REDONDO BEACH
What could be more romantic than cuddling up to your other half and taking a gondola ride at Redondo Beach? It’s such a unique date night idea that lets you experience a little bit of Venice in L.A. This is by far one of the most romantic things you can do in Los Angeles at night. Cosy up during the sunset or under the light of the moon, enjoy some fine wine, and admire the picturesque beauty of the city with your better half. I should also add that this is one of the best places to take photographs in the area too.
07. VISIT EXPOSITION PARK ROSE GARDEN
Known as one of L.A’s best-kept secrets, the Exposition Park Rose Garden is an amazing spot for couples dating in Los Angeles. The colourful aura of the place takes you away from the bustling city life and offers a beautiful backdrop for you to take lots of photographs. The park also houses the California Science Centre and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, as well as some other great attractions. Get ready to take a romantic stroll by the roses, snap some super loved-up pictures together, and take home memories for a lifetime at one of the most romantic spots in L.A.
08. SHARE A THRILLING MOTORCYCLE RIDE ON MULHOLLAND DRIVE
For those who enjoy sharing the adventure of the open road on the back of a Harley or other motorcycle, Mulholland Drive winds along the mountains between the L.A. Basin and the Valley giving you stunning views of both. You don’t have to bring your own bike though, as there are a number of great rental companies right along the Pacific Coast Highway. Keep in mind the rentals can get expensive, especially if you plan to drive all the way up to San Francisco and return the motorcycle to a vendor there. But it’s a great date idea that neither of you is going to forget in a hurry!
09. VISIT THE GRIFFITH OBSERVATORY
If heaven is really out there, it’s got to be right here. Being one of Southern California’s top attractions and an iconic landmark, the Griffith Observatory allows you to admire the sky and surrounding universe like never before. The Observatory sits 1,134 feet above sea level and offers some of the most romantic views of L.A. If you’re on the lookout for romantic things to do here as a couple, then look no further!
10. TAKE A TRIP AROUND UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD
If you’re the type of person who’s always imagined yourself with your loved one during every flick you’ve ever watched, it’s time you lived the reel life for real. Visit the Universal Studios Hollywood with your significant other and explore the sights you’ve been watching on the big screen. Hold hands, walk closer, and transit into the world of romance. This theme park and film studio offers you a good sneak peek into some of Hollywood’s most famous movies and their behind-the-scenes. This is surely one of the most romantic places you can visit in Los Angeles.
11. ENJOY A NIGHT AWAY AT THE RITZ CARLTON HOTEL
Looking to get away with your loved one for a night or two? If so, I most definitely recommend staying at The Ritz Carlton Hotel. Situated on West Olympic Boulevard, this posh 5-star hotel is the epitome of luxury and romance. From the clubrooms to classy suites, everything is super elegant and the hotel boasts a rooftop outdoor pool, a luxe spa, and an amazing dining experience. It’s just perfect for a romantic getaway.
12. VISIT THE WALT DISNEY CONCERT HALL
If you’re getting a bit tired of going on some of the more common date nights in Los Angeles, then visiting the Walt Disney Concert Hall could be right up your street! Book a show for you and your loved one and listen to some of the most beautiful and melodious tunes played by some of the most talented musicians. Once you’re done with the music, visit one of the nearby local restaurants to have a tasty meal. It’s without a doubt one of the best romantic places you can visit in L.A!
13. EXPLORE HOLLYWOOD ON HORSEBACK
Sunset Ranch, on the outskirts of Hollywood, offers a great horseback riding experience for riders of all different levels. Out of the many tours available, the ‘Best View and BBQ’ tour is the best which includes a two-hour-long evening ride to Mount Hollywood. The staff at the ranch are lovely and friendly, and you can tell that all the horses are happy in their home. And don’t worry – they don’t expect you go out riding on your own. A leader goes with you to ensure that everything runs smoothly. I guarantee you’ll have a magical time and want to go back again and again, even if you’ve never ridden on horseback before.
14. GO ON A ROMANTIC RIVER CRUISE
The best way to surprise your partner in Los Angeles is by taking them out on a romantic dinner cruise. Marina Del Rey is one of the best options for a romantic cruise in L.A. You can enjoy a complete three-course meal and a glass or two of wine with your date on the tranquil waters of the Pacific, dance the night away to melodic tunes and have one of the best nights of your life. Bliss!
15. INVITE A TOP CHEF TO COOK A ROMANTIC MEAL FOR YOU AT HOME
Some nights you just want to enjoy a home-cooked meal – but if neither of you feels like slaving away in the kitchen, Cozymeal is the answer to “So, what are we having tonight?” Based on the kind of cuisine you want, Cozymeal will send a top chef – some of whom have worked at Michelin-starred restaurants – to whip up a gourmet feast in your kitchen. You can choose to help mix, chop, and stir, or just sit back with a glass of wine and watch how it’s done. A date night like this is perfect for couples who met on a dating site like Los Angeles Personals and live fairly close to each other.
16. ENJOY SOME LIVE MUSIC AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL
One of the most romantic places to visit in Los Angeles, Hollywood Bowl is an idyllic spot when on honeymoon in L.A or for any couple visiting for the first time. The 1920’s amphitheatre hosts music performances throughout the year and also features exhibitions, concerts, and various other shows. It’s a great place for couples who love their music to mingle and enjoy a date night with a difference.
17. GO FOR A DRIVE DOWN THE COAST IN A CONVERTIBLE
I mentioned earlier that you could hire a motorcycle and ride down the open road on the back of it, but if a motorcycle is a bit too much of a thrill for you and your other half then how about riding down the Pacific Coast Highway in a convertible on a sunny day instead!? It would most definitely add a little sex appeal to your adventure through Malibu!
You could follow the coast through all the neighbourhoods around the Palos Verdes Peninsula, take the Orange County Coast, or spend a whole day driving from Malibu to South Orange County with stops at viewpoints along the way. Depending on the rental car company you choose (and how far you drive), prices will typically run between $100 and $300 per day.
18. SPEND A ROMANTIC EVENING BALLROOM DANCING
Strictly Come Dancing has demonstrated just how sexy ballroom dancing can be, and it’s still perfectly romantic to hold your partner and whirl him or her around the floor even if you’re just a beginner. Fortunately, there are plenty of lessons and clubs where you can dance the tango, waltz, salsa, foxtrot, swing, and more.
19. HAVE A PICNIC
Sharing a picnic in a special location is a romantic way to spend time together, and it doesn’t have to be expensive, either! You can go the budget route and grab your favourite fast food or assemble a gourmet feast from a local supermarket, or you can go all out with champagne and caviar or a basket from your favourite high-end restaurant.
The Bistro Garden, Clementine Catering & Café, and Marston’s Restaurant are among the best places in the city to get a prepared picnic-to-go, and once you’ve got your meal, consider heading over to Corona del Mar State Beach in Orange County or Roxbury Park in Beverly Hills for an ideal setting to enjoy your meal. It’ll go down a treat!
20. SHARE A KISS ON A FERRIS WHEEL
And finally, there’s something a little old-fashioned and inherently romantic about riding a Ferris wheel – taking in the elevated view and sharing a kiss at the top. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier is a great choice, offering a scenic view along the coast, with or without an accompanying walk on the beach. Could there be anything more romantic to do in L.A? I think not!
And there you have it – my suggestions for 20 fantastic places to go on a date in Los Angeles.
